Major upgrades for Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced plans for a KSH7.5 billion expansion of Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Project funding would be provided by KAA (KSH3.8 billion) and the World Bank (KSH750 million), while the remaining KSH3 billion is expected to be sourced from private investors. Project plans include:
Construction of a second runway;
Terminal expansion from 26,000 to 55,000 sqm;
Expansion of aircraft parking from 200,000 to 300,000 sqm;
Construction of additional taxiways.
Plans are subject to approval by the Ministry of Transport and Treasury. A decision is expected by early 2006. KAA's future plans include the upgrade of Isiolo airstrip into an international airport, as well as the relocation of Nairobi Wilson Airport.
