Kenyan and Indian airport construction projects

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Kenya Airports Authority announced (04-Oct-05) plans to commence a USD100 million expansion and upgrade project at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Jan-06.

Works would include:

  • Expansion of the passenger terminal from 25,660 to 55,220 sqm;
  • Expansion of aircraft apron space from 200,000 to 300,000 sqm.

Meanwile, Airports Authority of India announced (05-Oct-05) the INR1 billion expansion project at Calicut Airport, which commenced in 2003, would be completed by Jun-06. Works include construction/installation of:

  • 6,000 ft runway;
  • New passenger terminal with aerobridges and 30 airline counters;
  • New retail areas;
  • Online baggage system;
  • Customs and immigration facilities.
