European air traffic management

(CAPA): European Commission adopted new rules for more interoperability

between air traffic management (ATM) systems in Europe. The new measure aims

to establish common technical and procedural rules and thereby remove barriers

to the harmonised use of ATM systems. The new legislation complement two Regulations

adopted last year in order to modernise air traffic management systems within

the Single European Sky. The new legislation complement two Regulations adopted

European Sky.

Vice-President Jacques Barrot, Commissioner for Transport said: “This legal instrument is another milestone in the implementation of the Single Sky, as it supports the coordinated introduction of a new technical solution in air traffic management systems throughout Europe.”

The new Regulation on 'flight message transfer protocol' will allow the use of internet protocol in communication systems between air traffic control units. These communication systems support the coordination procedures between air traffic control units.
