Singapore (ARNIC) - Air travelers who enjoy the convenience and speed of kiosks for electronic check-in will certainly appreciate the new South Wing of Terminal 1 at Tokyo Narita International Airport. Thanks to a joint effort by ARINC Incorporated and airlines of the Star Alliance, passengers at the new Terminal 1 South Wing will have at their disposal 126 universal check-in kiosks—with each kiosk serving multiple airlines in the Star Alliance.
With this installation, Star Alliance airlines also become the first customers for ARINC’s next generation of SelfServ™ CUSS kiosk technology. The SelfServ CUSS system in the South Wing uses a flexible new all-Java software platform that accepts virtually all types of kiosks and accommodates any number of participating airlines.
“This record-setting kiosk installation is a highly significant achievement for our industry and for ARINC. We are grateful to the Star Alliance for choosing ARINC to support their passenger operations at the new South Wing, and for allowing us to deliver the largest CUSS kiosk deployment in the APAC region,” stated Randy Pizzi, Vice President and Managing Director of ARINC Asia/Pacific. “It is a testament to our strong business partnership and to our shared ideals—to provide today’s airline passengers with better, simpler, and safer travel.”
The departure lobby of the new Narita Terminal 1 South Wing boasts a spacious floor plan of 16,200 m2, about three times the size of the lobby at Narita Terminal 2. For the first time, Star Alliance member airlines serving Narita are now brought together in one place, with an ideal layout that facilitates improved passenger check-in and departure operations as well as easier navigation around the terminal.
Mike Picco, Vice President of ARINC Airport Systems, added “Many airlines and airports have asked for a version of SelfServ to work with their specialized kiosks, or with units from a range of manufacturers. As we promised last fall, we have now delivered a new SelfServ solution that can answer their needs completely.”
