Rayani Air

Ceased Operations on 08-Apr-2016
Country: Malaysia

Rayani Air was a Malaysian regional carrier based in Langkawi. The carrier was the first shariah compliant airline in Malaysia, and was established as a 'boutique airline' providing leisure traffic to Langkawi. The venture was part of a State plan to boost inbound traffic. Rayani Air launched service operations on 20-Dec-2015, with Langkawi-Kota Bharu and Langkawi-Kuala Lumpur services using two Boeing 737-400s. The carrier effectively ceased operations on 08-Apr-2016, amid restructuring plans. Further, the Department of Civil Aviation issued Rayani a provisional AOC suspension on 11-Apr-2016, after the Malaysian Government found Rayani contravening service conditions. In May-2016, the Malaysian Aviation Commission and DCA launched an audit of the airline. Following the investigation, both government departments revoked Rayani Air's air service license on 13-Jun-2016.
