About

PLAY is a proposed Icelandic carrier that plans to commence low cost services to destinations in the United States and Europe, filing a void in the nordic market vacated by the recently bankrupt LCC, WOW air. PLAY, previously known as WAB air, was founded by former WOW air executives, with Avianta Capital holding a majority stake in the new venture. The start-up was expected to launch in Summer 2020 but the carrier advised it is expected to delay the commencement of operations to 2Q2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

PLAY received an air operator's certificate (AOC) from the Icelandic Transport Authority, along with finalising A321neo lease agreements with AerCap and Airbus in May-2021. PLAY also announced plans to launch twice weekly Reykjavik-London Stansted service with A321neo aircraft on 24-Jun-2021.
