Turkey focuses on private airport development


Turkish Government announced plans early this month to launch

a 20-year BOT contract tender for Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport. The

airport, located 40 km from Istanbul (on the Eastern side), opened in Jan-00,

but stayed inactive before efforts were launched in 2004 to increase air traffic

when charter and unscheduled cargo services, as well as new domestic services,

were diverted from Atatürk International Airport (Istanbul’s main

airport) to Sabiha Gokcen. [323 words]
