SkyEurope, easyJet, Lufthansa shares strengthen, as Aer Lingus and Scandinavians fall

Analysis

SkyEurope shares rebounded 5.0% yesterday, reversing falls after a string of bad news, including Wizz Air's impending entry to SkyEurope's Prague base and a reduced fleet of only five aircraft. But investors are surely speculating off a low price, as there is little good news attaching to the airline at present.

easyJet also gained 4.1%, as the market continues to be warmly disposed towards its growth and yield improvements.

Lufthansa, remaining in the spotlight as it leaves options open for further acquisitions, gained 3.2%. Investors appear to favour further expansion, as Iberia and British Airways' merger talks falter again, with even Aer Lingus now appearing as a possible target.

European selected airlines daily share price movements (% change): 27-Jan-09
