Analysis

Singapore (ARINC) - Philippine Airlines, Asia's first airline and one of the world's most respected carriers, has selected ARINC's GLOBALinkSM/VHF data link service to extend its flight communications capability and enhance passenger services.

Under a recent contract, Philippine Airlines (PAL) will use GLOBALink/VHF on portions of its route network, which spans 31 international and 20 domestic destinations. Besides adding data link capability on transpacific routes and at Bangkok, Thailand, the Manila-based carrier also plans to achieve greater productivity through introduction of new data link applications.

"We have built consistently on our strength in service excellence ever since becoming Asia's first airline," stated Reginald Arguelles, Manager, Aircraft Engineering Department, and Philippine Airlines. "ARINC's GLOBALink/VHF service will provide us with an expanded communications infrastructure to help enhance our operational support and provide enhanced service for our customers."

"ARINC and Philippine Airlines have enjoyed a long-standing relationship," stated Randy Pizzi, ARINC's Asia/Pacific Vice President and Managing Director. "We will continue to strengthen that relationship through services like GLOBALink/VHF and other data link applications, to help PAL meet their long term objectives as one of Asia's leading airlines."

Philippine Airlines also uses other advanced ARINC services including MUSELink™ wide-area networking, AviNet® Type B business messaging, AviNet Type A Host-to-Host messaging, and ARINC's Air-Ground Voice service.
