PEER REVIEW: South Korea’s network carriers profitable in 2Q2010; good fortune expected to continue

Premium Analysis

Asiana Airlines and Korean Air were both profitable at the operating level in the three months ended Jun-2010 (2Q2010), as the carriers reported strong revenue and yield growth in the three-month period. The carriers' good fortune is expected to continue in the third quarter, as a result of buoyant Summer travel demand, with Korean Air commenting that the "continuous recovery of South Korea's outbound traffic and strengthening of the Korean won against major currencies will boost the per-passenger revenue further up in the third quarter."
