Malaysia Airlines first to land at Adelaide Airport's new terminal

KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysia Airlines) - Malaysia Airlines became the first international carrier to land at Adelaide Airport's brand new terminal which opened today. Just as Adelaide woke up to a new day, MH139 carrying 248 passengers touched down safely at exactly 6.00am (Australian Time).

Marking its inaugural arrival at the terminal the splendid blue B777 stylised exterior boasting Heliconia leaves, piloted by Captain Fauzi Hashim and First Officer Kumareson Kobarajah, the aircraft made a graceful yet grand touchdown. Mr. Mike Rann, Premier South Australia and Mr. Phillip Baker, General Manager Adelaide Airport Limited were on hand to receive the Minister of the South Australia Tourism Commission, Dr Jane Lomax-Smith, her assistant Ms Zoe Joyce and Senior General Manager Customer Services Malaysia Airlines Mr. Nadziruddin Md Basri who were on board.

Speaking to members of the Australian media, Mr. Nadziruddin Md Basri said, "Malaysia Airlines is honoured to have been given this privilege to be the very first foreign international carrier to dock at this new terminal. To make it even more special, we flew in on this B777 which is the only one of its kind in our B777 fleet showcasing this motif. All our B777s are being retrofitted to boast a two class configuration complete with one of the most advanced inflight entertainment systems. The cabin has been given a new look of luxury and elegance which passengers will see and feel when the fly with Malaysia Airlines.

Last March, we embarked on a new programme called 'An Experience Redefined" giving flying a whole new dimension. We have commenced work on comprehensive aircraft cabin upgrade with a total inflight delivery service for our premium passengers to enjoy when they fly with us," he added

Malaysia Airlines has been flying into Adelaide for the last 15 years and currently operates four weekly services. The airline also operates to four other Australian cities using a combination of B747, B777 and A330 aircraft types. Services to Melbourne are 14 times weekly, to Perth nine times weekly, to Sydney 12 times weekly and Brisbane, six times a week.
