Jet fuel takes a breather after recent hikes

Analysis

Crude prices have moved sideways over the past week after two months of big rises. But airlines would be concerned that jet fuel prices have outpaced recent increases in underlying crude, albeit by a small margin.

Jet fuel spot prices rose 2.1% in the week to 15-Jun-09 at New York Harbor, the US Gulf Coast and Los Angeles, +2.7% in Amsterdam and +4.9% in Singapore, against an underlying 0.6% increase in the WTI crude price.

Oil prices have stayed above USD70, closing overnight up 20 cents to USD71.23 per barrel in New York for July delivery.
