Hong Kong's Dragonair expands Japan services

Analysis

Hong Kong (XFN-ASIA) - Hong Kong airline Dragonair, a subsidiary

of Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, said it is opening two new routes to Japan, but

cutting its daily Tokyo service.

The company said in a statement it will launch a new daily service to Fukuoka, on Kyushu island, and a thrice-weekly journey to Sendai, in Tohoku region, in October.

"Part of our long-term strategy is to serve niche markets in Asia in addition to our core mainland China market," Dragonair chief executive officer Kenny Tang said.

"While we expect the majority of our passengers to originate in Japan, there will also be considerable demand for the new flights from Hong Kong, South Asia, Europe and Australia," Tang added.
