Hapag-Lloyd gains productivity by switching to SITA managed solution

Analysis

Geneva (SITA) - Global cargo logistics company saves time and money with customized IP-based faxing from SITA.

SITA, the world's leading service provider of IT business solutions and communications services to the air transport industry, today announced it is helping Hapag-Lloyd, a leading global supplier of worldwide door-to-door container transport services who send some 5 million faxes worldwide annually, raise productivity within the company by speeding up the handling of cargo-related documentation through a cost effective, flexible and customizable Internet Protocol (IP)-based fax solution.

Conventional manual faxing involves printing a document, walking to the fax machine, filling out a cover sheet, dialing, sending and waiting to make sure the transmission was successful. When faxes are sent at Internet speed, from the convenience of a personal computer, the time taken and associated labor costs are reduced dramatically. By moving away from a traditional, hardware-intensive fax environment Hapag-Lloyd are lowering their total cost of ownership and as a result benefit from greater comfort and productivity.

"SITA understands our business and was the logical choice to help us become more productive," said Martin Schroeder, Director IT Technology and Operations Management, Hapag-Lloyd Container Lines. "We already rely on SITA to manage our global network, and its fax solution is available worldwide, at a competitive price, and comes with numerous features and customization options."

"As the specialist in the travel and transportation sector we understand the pain points faced by companies working in the field," said Assane Oueddo, Vice President Northern Europe, SITA SC. "For many corporate businesses, faxing is a redundant technology, but for cargo distribution, it remains an operational necessity. We are proud to aid Hapag-Lloyd in increasing operational efficiency, while leveraging their IP network."

The solution is being rolled-out globally to over 40 countries.
