Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to upgrade terminal this year to ease congestion

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport confirmed plans to invest USD44 million to upgrade its existing passenger terminal to relieve congestion. The project will commence after the Chinese New Year holiday in late Jan-09 and be completed in Oct-09. The airport reportedly handled 33 million passengers in 2008 - well above its design capacity of 25 million passengers p/a - compared to just under 31 million in 2007.
