Chongqing Jiangbei Airport on the rise
Chongqing Jiangbei Airport this month commenced its “Two Star strategy”,
which is set to eventually transform the airport into China’s largest,
as it is scheduled to become the first airport in the country with four runways.
Details of the airport’s massive expansion plans include construction
of a second 3,200 m runway this year to open by Oct-09, which will increase
the airport’s capacity to 30 million passengers p/a. The airport is planning
to construct the third runway in 2015 and a fourth in 2020, to reach a total
capacity of 70 million. In 2010, Chongqing Airport also plans to expand the
terminal by 100,000 sqm with another 200,000 sqm added by 2015.
