After years of careful protection of its international airlines,

China has begun to change course and adopt a policy of progressive liberalisation

of aviation access. By the end of 2006, the PRC had signed bilateral air services

agreements with 106 countries, resulting in 93 foreign airlines operating offering

262 weekly passenger services to 31 Mainland cities.
