Australia's Qantas says March passenger numbers up 8.3 pct yr-on-yr

Sydney (XFN-ASIA) - Qantas Airways Ltd said its total group

passenger numbers increased by 8.3 pct in March from the same month a year earlier.

Qantas said that March revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs) were up were 10.2 pct year-on-year while available seat kilometers (ASKs) were up 2.5 pct, resulting in a revenue seat factor of 80.7 pct, 5.6 percentage points higher.

The airline group earlier this week acknowledged an 11 bln aud takeover offer from a consortium led by Macquarie Bank Ltd had failed despite the bid being recommended by its board.

Some Qantas shareholders refused to accept the offer of 5.45 aud a share, arguing that the company's earnings potential meant the bid was too low.

Qantas closed down 0.01 at 5.22 aud, valuing the company at 10.36 bln aud.
