Athens International Airport's CEO elected President of ACI Europe

Analysis

Yiannis Paraschis, CEO of Athens International Airport, was

unanimously elected President of ACI Europe, representing the interests of some

400 airports in 45 countries, which account for over 90% of commercial air traffic

in Europe.

The new President's election was held within the framework of the 17th ACI Europe Annual Assembly, in Zurich.

Speaking after his election, Dr. Paraschis stated: "I am both flattered and delighted to have been unanimously elected ACI Europe's President. It reflects the international recognition of Athens International Airport and it is a significant distinction for the Greek air transport sector". "At a time which is so critical to the aviation industry and the airports sector within that," stressed Dr. Paraschis.

"I look forward to tackling, on a European level, the challenges we are facing such as capacity and financing, security, and the environment. As European legislators are bringing more and more challenges to our sector, it is more than ever relevant for ACI Europe to further strengthen its network across regional, local and national level throughout the Europe, particularly in the new accession countries, and use our clear advantage of being part of a global organisation to act in an integrated manner."

ACI Europe, the voice of Europe's airports, represents the interests of some 400 airports in 45 countries. Member airports handle 90% of commercial air traffic in Europe, welcoming over a billion passengers each year. ACI Europe promotes the exchange of industry know-how, while, by actively seeking the views of airport members, the association generates comprehensive common policies that serve as a reference to the entire aviation industry. ACI Europe works on a day-to-day basis with the institutions of the European Union, the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and the European Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). ACI World pursues the same mission with the International Civil Aviation Organisation of the United Nations (ICAO) and other world organisations. By mobilising its in-house expertise, EU contacts and a range of communication tools, ACI Europe aims to promote a wider understanding of the challenges facing civil aviation in Europe.
