Airservices Australia signs agreement with DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung

Analysis

Canberra (AIRSERVICES AUSTRALIA) - Both Air navigation service providers have signed an agreement to jointly pursue aviation business opportunities in several Gulf States as well as targeted countries in Asia. Airservices Australia Chief Executive Officer, Greg Russell said the cooperation arrangement included development of services or proposals to secure commercial business specifically in the Persian Gulf region countries, India and China.

"Both Airservices and DFS have independently identified these regions as major growth areas of the future in airports, air traffic control management and associated airside business, " he said.

Dieter Kaden, CEO of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH added "We are looking forward to the outcomes from this commercial partnership and the raised level of cooperation between two leading world air navigation services providers".

The expansion of air traffic and infrastructure development in the three target locations are among the highest in the world.

Forecasts for India show international and domestic passenger traffic growth of about 12 percent annually until 2009 with freight to increase by 10 percent annually for the next five years. China's airports have delivered capacity growth of 13 percent for the past six years and it is estimated 29 major Chinese airports will reach saturation point by 2010.

Mr Kaden said both organisations have complementary capabilities and by joining resources the partners are in the position to quote for larger scale projects. So it was to their mutual benefit to co-operate in identifying prospective customer opportunities, preparing business proposals and providing joint services.

"We are already sharing market intelligence and analysis and will be working over the next six months to develop specific marketing programs," Mr. Russell said.

"The initial plan is to organise sales missions into the Gulf region in the next few months in addition to developing strategies to market air traffic control, tower and airside products and services into China and India."
