Air Canada reports highest ever EDITDA, JetBlue traffic up 8% in Jan-2011

Air Canada reported a net profit of CAD107 million for the full-year 2010, compared with a net loss of CAD24 million in the previous year. The carrier reported its highest ever EBITDAR of CAD1386 million, up CAD707 million from the previous year. Shares in Air Canada were down 0.9% yesterday.

The carrier approved a special employee equity grant of CAD14 million to all eligible employees worldwide, where permitted. Air Canada unions have been pushing for wage increases following the positive results announcement. The carrier is about to commence negotiations with unions on new contracts.

Elsewhere, shares in US LCC JetBlue eased 0.2%. The airline reported its Jan-2011 traffic highlights, showing an 8.3% improvement in passenger traffic and a 5.9 ppt increase in passenger load factors to 80%. Encouragingly the airline's unit revenue (per ASM) was up 13%.
