Vueling to open new routes from Barcelona El Prat in response to Ryanair

Vueling President, Josep Piqué, stated the carrier plans to add up to 418 new weekly services from Barcelona El Prat Airport from 05-Jul-2010 (Eulam.com, 28-May-2010). Mr Piqué added he expects passenger throughput at the airport to increase by more than 10% in 2011. In response to Ryanair's announcement it was opening a base at El Prat in Sep-2010, Mr Piqué stated the effect on air fares will have to be assessed. Meanwhile, Vueling General Manager, Alex Cruz, stated the carrier expects to become the second largest LCC in Europe this year.
