US Airways and United Airlines face merger opposition from union

US Airways and United Airlines reportedly commenced merger negotiations over a month ago, with issues such as deal structure and management to be discussed in coming weeks (Reuters, 08-Apr-2010). US Airline Pilots Association (USAPA), which represents pilots at US Airways, stated it is open a merger, but wants to be a part of discussions. Meanwhile, the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) is "vehemently opposed to any merger that would not lead to a strong and viable United Airlines", according to Capt Wendy Morse, Chairman, United Master Executive Council of ALPA.
