US airlines report USD2.3bn operating profit in 2Q2012

US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported (25-Sep-2012) the following financial highlights for the largest scheduled passenger airlines in the US for three months ended 30-Jun-2012:

  • Operating revenue: USD38,014 million;
  • Operating costs: USD35,730 million;
  • Operating profit (loss): USD2285 million;
  • Net profit: USD670 million;
  • Passenger yield: USD 14.7 cents;
  • Revenue per ASM: USD 16.9 cents;
