US airlines pax up 1%, load factor also up in Jan-2012

US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported (24-Apr-2012) the following traffic highlights for US airlines in Jan-2012:

  • Passenger numbers: 54.3 million, +1.1% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 46.9 million, +1.3%;
    • International: 7.4 million, +1.7%;
  • Load factor: 77.6%, +1.1 ppt;
    • Domestic: 78.1%, +1.5 ppt;
    • International: 76.7%, +0.2 ppt;
  • Flights: 744,000, -1.0%;
    • Domestic: 674,300, -0.6%;
    • International: 69,700, +1.1%;
  • Flight stage length: 750,400 miles, +0.7%;
    • Domestic: 640,600, +1.4%;
    • International: 1812, +2.7%;
  • Passenger trip length: 1125 miles, -0.5%;
