UK CAA could receive additional powers

UK government is reportedly considering plans to grant the Civil Aviation Authority new powers that would allow it to order major airports to clear snow from runways and stands (The Telegraph, 18-Apr-2011). The Department for Transport has previously signalled its preparedness to levy multi-million pound fines on the three regulated airports - Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick - should they be deemed to have performed badly or were ill prepared.
