UAE bans airlines with poor safety records from airspace

UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) stated airline operators with poor international air safety records will be prevented from entering UAE airspace (Khaleej Times, 23-Jan-2011). The GCAA also warned of taking legal action against operators for breach of rules and for poor fleet maintenance. The GCAA has, over the past two years, banned 41 air operators from entering UAE air space for violations in air safety rules. This included 19 operators in 2010 and 22 in 2009. Two have been allowed to resume operations after having responded to the instructions of the GCAA.
