Turkish Airlines expects to report profit in 2011; will 'almost realise' sales forecast of USD7.5bn

Turkish Airlines CEO Temel Kotil stated the carrier expect to report a profit in 2011 despite a net loss of USD204 million in 1Q2011 (Bloomberg, 06-Jul-2011). The company will "almost realise" its sales forecast of USD7.5 billion for 2011, Mr Kotil said. "We are a little over the budget in the first half and we expect to be a little lower in the remainder of the year and therefore we expect to reach the target," he said. "We haven't revised our budget for 2011" because of adverse effects of the political upheavals in the Middle East and North Africa, he added. The airline will carry "a very little less than" the targetted 35 million passengers in 2011, the CEO said.
