Thai Transport Minister still opposes Thai and Tiger LCC JV

Thailand's Transport Minister, Sohpon Zarum, stated the Transport Ministry is still opposed to Thai Airways plans to launch Thai Tiger Airways under a JV agreement with Tiger Airways, even if Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij support the deal (Bangkok Post, 01-Sep-2010). Mr Zarum stated the ministry is still unclear about Thai's decision to provide a foreign airline with aviation rights in the country and if the carrier wants to expand its LCC business it should use subsidiary, Nok Air.

Thai Government: "The ministry's legal division is now studying related laws to find out whether the planned joint venture for a low-cost airline involving THAI and Tiger Air is feasible and lawful. After receiving their conclusion, the ministry will make public its position on the Thai Tiger Airways venture," Sohpon Zarum, Transport Minster. Source: Bangkok Post, 01-Sep-2010.
