Sydney Airport Group and Govt 'get down to business' over new Sydney airport project: Minister

Australia's Government and the Sydney Airport Group officially commenced (01-Oct-2014) the nine-month formal consultation process regarding the proposed Badgerys Creek Airport on 01-Oct-2014. As previously reported by CAPA, Sydney Airports received a right of first refusal regarding new airport developments within 100 kilometres of Sydney City under the Sydney Airport Sale Act 2002. The country's Deputy PM and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss advised the government had formally issued a 'Notice to Consult' in Aug-2014 to develop a proposal for the project. Australian Government: "Formal consultation between the Australian Government and Sydney Airport Group, as part of the right of first refusal process, will involve a series of meetings over a nine-month period to explore options for a Western Sydney airport. In addition to working in good faith through consultation with the Sydney Airport Group, the Australian Government will also consult a range of other industry participants, including airlines and other airport operators. Following the consultation, the Australian Government may decide to make a contractual offer to the Sydney Airport Group. Any offer would set out the material terms for developing and operating a Western Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek," Warren Truss, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development.
