Stranded Canadians increase concern about UAE spat

Canadian citizens held in Abu Dhabu International Airport over the weekend have increased concerns in Canada that the dispute with the UAE over landing rights must be resolved (Canadian Press, 23-Jan-2011). Two Canadian businessmen spent 15 hours in the airport as there was confusion over the recently introduced visa requirements for Canadians visiting the UAE. Canadians must pay between CAD250-100 for a visa under new laws. Prior to the dispute, Canadians could travel to the UAE on a free one-month visa.
