Southwest Airlines does not intend to lay off staff during AirTran merger

Southwest Airlines does not intend to lay off any employees during its merger with AirTran Airways (The Business Journal, 06-Jul-2011). Southwest's Executive VP for Strategy and Planning, Bob Jordan, stated the company is in the process of merging the companies with a target completion of mid-2014, with "no target to eliminate staff". Mr Jordan said Southwest has told AirTran employees that they will have an opportunity at Southwest, although some of the headquarters jobs may require relocation to Dallas.
