South Korea's int'l pax up 9% in Aug-2013, domestic pax up 12%

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reports (26-Aug-2013) the following traffic highlights in Aug-2013:

  • Passenger numbers: 7.3 million, +9.6% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 2.1 million,+12.3%;
      • LCCs: 1.0 million, +21.5%;
    • International: 5.1 million, +8.5%;
      • Japan: 1.1 million, -7.3%;
      • China: 1.5 million, +25.1%;
      • Southeast Asia: 1.6 million, +8.5%;
      • Americas: 419,786, +9.3%;
      • Europe: 341,018, +5.4%;
      • Oceania: 156,772, +0.5%;
      • Others: 80,816, +18.8%.

According to the Ministry, South Korea's full service carriers accounted for 64.2% of total international passengers in Aug-2013 while the nation's LCCs accounted for 10.1% of the total international passengers, up 1.9 ppts. South Korea's LCCs had a domestic market share of 47.4%, up 3.6 ppts.
