Snow chaos could reopen Heathrow third runway issue: KPMG

KPMG's global chair for transport, Ashley Steel, stated the severe snowfall at London Heathrow could reopen talks about the construction of a third runway (Reuters/Bloomberg, 12-Jan-2011). After the loss of tens of billions of pounds, Mr Steel stated extra capacity at the airport would "ease the burden", which is "running at almost full capacity, which means that any incident, be it weather, ash or strikes, will affect arrivals and departures at the airport".

KPMG: "The latest disruptions over Christmas will almost certainly reopen the debate about a third runway at Heathrow … We need to discuss that option though also consider the expansion of other airports in the south-east region or indeed the possibility of an additional airport for London."
