Singapore Changi Airport announces 12% increase in Jan-2012 pax, cargo down 7%

Singapore Changi Airport stated Jan-2012 passenger numbers of 4.2 million was the highest number of passengers the airport has handled in a single month apart from Dec-2011. The airport added that one in every 10 passengers travelling through the airport is a first or business class passenger. Traffic highlights include:

  • Passenger numbers: 4.2 million, +12.1% year-on-year;
  • Cargo volume: 136,843 tonnes, -7.1%;

Changi Airport: "Travel demand in Jan-2012 was boosted by the Lunar New Year holiday which was spread over a long weekend. Demand was strongest on Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, South Asia and Middle East routes. Each of these regions registered double-digit growth year-on-year. For the month, the top five routes were Jakarta, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Manila, which collectively accounted for close to one-third of passenger traffic."
