Sichuan Airlines launches first service linking North America and Sichuan

Sichuan Airlines launched (22-Jun-2012) the first direct flight linking North America and China's interior province of Sichuan, with the launch of three times weekly Chengdu-Shenyang-Vancouver service on 22-Jun-2012, operated with 245-seat A330 equipment - see Route Changes Table for more information. Demand for air travel from China continues to grow and in 2011, the number of airline seats available between mainland China and Vancouver increased by 30%. As of the end of May-212, more than half a million passengers travelled through Vancouver from the Asia Pacific region in 2012. Sichuan province, served by Sichuan Airlines' domestic network, is home to 100 million people, approximately three times the population of Canada. The new passenger service was made possible by the current Canada-China Air Transport Agreement. The Canadian Government issued a Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC) to Sichuan Airlines on 03-Apr-2012. [more - original PR - Vancouver Airport] [more - original PR - Canadian Government]
