Shanghai Pudong to become largest cargo hub by 2015

CAAC announced (06-Apr-2012) it signed an agreement with Shanghai Municipal Government on 05-Apr-2012 to expedite the development of civil aviation in Shanghai, transforming Shanghai into an important aviation hub with 100 million passengers and 5.5 million tonnes of cargo p/a by 2015. Also under the agreement, Shanghai Pudong Airport will be transformed into a core aviation hub for the Asia Pacific region and the largest cargo hub while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport will become a network hub for domestic passengers. The two airports handled 74.6 million passengers, 3.5 million tonnes of cargo and 574,000 aircraft movements in 2011.
