Review of Japan Supplementary Budget leads to aviation funding cuts

Japanese Government, following a review of the FY2009 supplementary budget, suspended the execution of approximately JPY17.9 billion (USD299 million) of the JPY33.9 billion (USD379 million) Civil Aviation Budget allocated to the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) (Nikkan Koko, 13-Oct-2009). JPY16.8 billion (USD188 million) of the JPY27.3 billion (USD305 million) airport maintenance budget has been cut, with the major affected item being JPY10 billion (USD112 million) for improvement of the satellite navigation system programme. Haneda Airport's Runway C extension (by 360 m) has been approved.
