Qatar’s LCC to launch only if market share is lost

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al-Baker announced that the airline would only launch an LCC subsidiary if it felt its market share was being challenged by LCCs (Gulf News, 14-Jun-2011). LCCs in the region include Jazeera Airways, Air Arabia, Bahrain Air and flydubai.

Qatar Airways: "We will open a [low-cost carrier] as soon as we feel that our market share is being taken away. But we have the name registered, we have the business plan ready and we have the aircraft configuration ready. We will launch very fast once I press the button." Akbar Al-Baker, CEO.
