Qantas engineers meet today to decide on planned industrial action; Qantas "disappointed"

Qantas engineers' union, the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, is to consider today what industrial action to take, after 98% of members yesterday voted in favour, after talks with the company over the past seven months failed to resolve their differences. Qantas stated (06-Nov-2009) it is "disappointed" its engineers union is planning to take industrial action. The carrier stated it has not walked away from the negotiating table and remains committed to continuing to negotiate in good faith, resolving issues and finalising the enterprise bargaining agreement - but that the union's current pay claim of more than 30% over three years is "unreasonable" and does not expect any disruption to operations if industrial action is taken.
