Puerto Rico to privatise Luis Munoz Marin Airport

Puerto Rico reportedly plans to privatise Luis Munoz Marin Airport for USD1 billion, in a bid to reduce its USD3.2 billion deficit (AP, 06-Dec-2009). FAA rules state the funding received from the airport's privatisation must be used for airport improvements. Puerto Rico has reportedly requested an exemption allowing the funding to be used to help its budget crisis. The FAA has 30 days to respond, providing 65% of the airlines at Luis Munoz Marin Airport back the government's proposal.
