Munich Airport plans to continue with expansion plans

Germany's Munich Airport CEO, Michael Kerkloh stated the airport plans to continue with expansion and development plans despite a downturn in traffic (The Moodie Report, 29-Sep-09). Key investments will include the construction of a third runway and satellite building from Terminal 2. The airport also plans to improve Terminal 1's central zone, to expand its retail and F&B offerings.

Munich Airport: "It's a difficult time, but this is the time for innovation, the time to be brave, the time to try new concepts. Non-aviation income is 47% of our turnover, and retail is a critical part of that. Because we also operate shops and restaurants through our own subsidiaries such as Eurotrade and Allresto, it's even more vital for our business, and key to our profits," Michael Kerkloh, CEO.
