MAS returns to profitability, highest load factor in 15 years in 3Q2010

Malaysia Airlines revenue up 15% - financial highlights for the three months ended 30-Sep-2010:

  • Operating revenue: USD1060 million, +15.4% year-on-year;
    • Passenger surcharges: USD120.1 million, +3.0%;
    • Cargo fuel surcharge: USD39.6 million, +42.5%;
  • Operating costs: USD1047 million, +8.5%;
    • Fuel: USD341.2 million, +11.9%;
  • Operating profit: USD39.2 million, compared to a loss of USD24.7 million in p-c-p;
  • Profit before tax: USD75.4 million, compared to loss of USD95.0 million in p-c-p;
  • Net profit: USD74.7 million, compared to a loss of USD95.5 million in p-c-p;
  • Passenger traffic (RPKs): +7%;
  • Capacity (ASKs): +4%;
  • Passenger load factor: 78.6%, +1.9 ppt;
  • Passenger yield: USD 7.67 cents, +7%;
  • Passenger revenue per ASK: USD 6.04 cents, +10%;
  • Cargo traffic (FTKs): +6%;
  • Cargo capacity (ATKs): +13%;
  • Cargo load factor: 76.1%, -4.2 ppts;
  • Cargo yield: USD 26.10 cents, +26%;
  • Cargo revenue per FTK: USD 18.75 cents, +19%;
  • Total assets: USD3836 million, +40.5% when compared to period ended 31-Dec-2009;
  • Cash and bank balances: USD677.6 million, -20.4% when compared to period ended 31-Dec-2009;
  • Total liabilities: USD2785 million, +11.2% when compared to period ended 31-Dec-2009. [more]
