15-Sep-2010 10:48 AM

Manx2.com announced (14-Sep-2010) plans to establish a permanent base at George Best Belfast City Airport from Oct-2010. Manx2.com will move all Northern Ireland operations from Belfast International Airport to the new base. The move will also see two aircraft based at the airport. It will be the first permanent base the carrier has established outside of the Isle of Man. The carrier also announced (13-Sep-2010) plans to launch twice daily Belfast-Cork service as part of the move - see Route Changes Table for more information. [more - new hub] [more - Cork service]

Manx2.com: "With the significant changes taking place in the aviation sector this year, with passenger numbers declining and many airlines either restructuring or going broke, there are opportunities for smaller companies nimble enough to respond to these market changes ... While we'll be sorry to leave Belfast International Airport, our passenger surveys confirm that our lower volume commuter routes are better suited to Belfast City Airport, where speed of transit through the terminal and fast access to the City's business centre are seen as key benefits ... We have witnessed significant changes in the aviation industry this year with overall passenger numbers declining and many airlines either restructuring or going into liquidation. Whilst challenging for the industry, these changes have presented opportunities for smaller companies like our own which are nimble enough to respond successfully to these fast-moving market dynamics," Noel Hayes, Chairman.
