Boeing confirmed (17-Nov-2011) Jakarta-based Lion Air signed a commitment for the airline to order 201 B737MAXs and 29 B737-900ERs. The agreement also includes purchase rights for an additional 150 aircraft. With 230 aircraft at a list price of USD21.7 billion, this agreement will be the largest commercial aircraft order ever in Boeing’s history by both dollar volume and total number of aircraft. Lion Group expands fleet by 16 aircraft in 1H2016, surpassing the 250 aircraft milestone
Indonesia-based Lion Group expanded its fleet by 16 aircraft in 1H2016, cementing its position as the largest airline group in Southeast Asia. Lion now has a fleet of more than 250 aircraft while its rival AirAsia – the region’s second largest group – has under 200 aircraft based in Southeast Asia.
However a net gain of 16 aircraft over the last six months marks a slowdown for Lion. The group’s fleet grew by 59 aircraft in 2015 and 39 aircraft in 2014.
None of Lion Group’s five airline subsidiaries or affiliates added more than five aircraft in 1H2016, resulting in relatively modest capacity expansion. The rate of expansion will likely pick up in 2H2016 but not approach previous levels.
Garuda Indonesia Part 4: revised fleet plan leads to new narrowbody and widebody orders
Garuda Indonesia is close to completing a new 10-year fleet plan outlining narrowbody and widebody growth. An overdue order for new generation widebody aircraft, along with a top-up order for 737 MAX narrowbodies, is expected by the end of 2016, potentially at the upcoming Farnborough Airshow.
The new fleet plan supports an ambitious plan to expand Garuda’s international network – both regionally and in the long haul sector. Garuda is also striving to strengthen its domestic position further with narrowbody growth.
According to CEO Arif Wibowo, the group's new overall strategy is: “To dominate the domestic market, expand regional where the opportunities are and subsidise long haul growth.” This is the fourth and final part of a comprehensive series of analysis reports published by CAPA on the Garuda Indonesia Group.
