Kenya Airways will list shares on the Nairobi Securities Exchange starting 21-Jun-2012 (allafrica.com, 08-Jun-2012). The Government of Kenya will also increase its share in the carrier from 23% to 29% while KLM will increase its stake from 26 to 26.73% after the rights issue.

The CAPA-ACTE Global Aviation Summit kicked off at Hotel Okura in Amsterdam on 27-Oct-2016 with a keynote presentation from KLM CEO Pieter Elbers.
Mr Elbers addressed the 850 CAPA-ACTE attendees from 45 countries on the topic of 'Digitizing the Airline': Connecting the dots towards 2025. KLM, with its Amsterdam Schiphol hub, was a disruptor in how and where passengers connect, and now Mr Elbers is bringing change to the digital world.
KLM has experienced a rise in passenger website usage, with 33% of tickets sold online and 70% of passengers using online check-in. Mr Elbers is preparing for a shift from mobile first to mobile only: "Whatever people do, it should fit in this small machine".
KLM has embraced third-party apps like Facebook Messenger and WeChat, and believes the future is with these types of platforms. KLM is the first airline in the world to use Facebook Messenger. Mr Elbers wants KLM to be able to respond to customer service issues during the journey, eliminating situations where a passenger writes a follow-up letter or e-mail. This saves KLM time and makes for a better experience. KLM's average online response time is 42 minutes, with a target to lower this further.
Air France-KLM: long haul low cost airline could be part of new CEO's vision as French Blue enters
Air France-KLM chairman and CEO, Jean-Marc Janaillac, who took charge in Jul-2016, has talked about the possibility of launching long haul low cost operations (Bloomberg/luchtvaartnieuws.nl, 20-Sep-2016).
If Air France-KLM were to enter this segment it would be the second of Europe's big three legacy airline groups to do so, after the Lufthansa Group. Ironically, there is no long haul low cost competition to Lufthansa in Germany. By contrast, IAG faces more such competitors in the UK than either of its two major rival groups in their largest home market, but currently has no plan for such an operator.
Air France-KLM management told analysts on a conference call in May-2016 that it was sceptical about the sustainability of year-round profits for long haul low cost. However, new competition has prompted Mr Janaillac to look more closely at this market segment. Since Jul-2016 Norwegian has commenced trans-Atlantic long haul operations from Paris CDG. In addition, since Sep-2016, the new-start long haul LCC French Blue now flies on routes to the Caribbean. Mr Janaillac is expected to report on his strategic vision for Air France-KLM in early Nov-2016. Labour relations will be crucial to the group's development – not least in the area of long haul low cost.
