Jetstar Asia notes CASK challenge in Singapore

Jetstar Asia CEO Barathan Pasupathi, speaking at CAPA's Airline Fleet & Finance Summit Asia, said (02-Mar-2015) some LCC's have got USD 0.03/c ASKs, noting: "I'd love to have that cost in Singapore, because you can't get that in a very inflationary, very cost-driven environment like Singapore." Mr Pasupathi continued: "You get your RASK right and your CASK right in your markets but that takes a lot of discipline… When we came out and said we were suspending growth in a capacity growth market like Singapore people said you're going to miss an opportunity." Mr Pasupathi added: "Today, they look at us and say it was a very disciplined decision to make. Capacity discipline, yield discipline is what we've been doing to get where we are today."
