JetBlue CEO sees benefit in large carrier mergers

JetBlue Airways CEO, Dave Barger, stated the carrier sees the benefit of mergers involving large network carriers, adding it expects to gain customers due to the service lapses that tend to accompany large airline mergers (Chicago Tribune, 26-Jul-2010). Mr Barger said: "If the industry ends up with, say, three network carriers (from today's five), there's going to be plenty of space for the JetBlues of the world. We're a pretty rare bird. There are only a couple of airlines that flew into a second decade as a stand-alone brand."
