Japan and US open skies agreement takes effect

Japan and US's open skies agreement took effect on 13-Nov-2010 (Kyodo News, 14-Nov-2010). In principle, the agreement will allow Japanese and US air carriers to freely open routes and determine the frequency of passenger and cargo flights between the countries. Japan and the US reached a basic agreement in Dec-2009 and signed an agreement on the content of the liberalisation in Oct-2010. It is the first full aviation liberalisation agreement for Japan that includes the nation's two major airports, Tokyo Narita and Tokyo Haneda.
