International pax to/from Australia up 7% to 2.4m in May-2014, capacity (seats) also up 7%

Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reports (30-Jul-2014) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia in May-2014:

• Passenger numbers: 2.4 million, +7.4% year-on-year;
• • Available seats: 3.5 million, +6.7%;
  • Flights: 13,996, +6.1%;
  • Cargo volume: 72,310 tonnes, -1.1%;
  • Aircraft movements: 14,503, +4.5%;

  • • Qantas: 16.2%, -1.1 ppts;
    • Emirates: 9.9%, +0.2 ppt;
    • Singapore Airlines: 9.3%, +0.4 ppt;
    • Virgin Australia: 8.3%, -0.2 ppt;
    • Jetstar: 8.0%, +0.6 ppt;
    • Air New Zealand: 6.8%, -0.3 ppt;
    • Cathay Pacific: 5.2%, +0.7 ppt;
    • AirAsia X: 4.5%, +1.2 ppts;
    • Malaysia Airlines: 4.2%, stable;
    • Etihad Airways: 2.2%, +0.1 ppt;

BITRE also reported LCCs AirAsia X, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Tigerair and Scoot accounted for 16% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in May-2014. The LCC share in May-2013 was 13.9%.
